St. Albans - Walter Kenneth King, 65, a resident of this area since 2000 passed away at his home early Thursday, May 7, 2009, with his loving family at his side following a courageous battle with cancer. Walter born March 8, 1944, in Atlanta, Georgia, he was the son of the late Woodrow Wilson King and Susie Lou (Holt) King. Walter proudly served his country in the United States Navy, and then reenlisted in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War and served in support of Operation Desert Storm. He was honorably discharged on December 11, 1992, at the rank of Senior Master Sergeant, after twenty-six years of dedicated service. Due to his illness, Walter retired from the Department of Homeland Security as an Adjudication Officer following seven years of service. He enjoyed traveling and especially enjoyed his trips with his family to Blue Ridge Park in the State of Georgia. On August 24, 1985, in Milton, Vermont, Walter married the former Mary Everest, who survives him. He is also survived by his two daughters, Jennifer Dawn King of Nashville, Tennessee and Martha Kay King of St. Albans, a nephew, Andrew King, a niece, Pamela King and his “work son†Jeff Williams. Walter’s family would like to thank the Franklin County Home Health Agency and Hospice Volunteers and a special thank you to his Hospice Nurse, Tracie. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2009 at 6:00 P.M. at the Heald Funeral Chapel, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans with the Reverend Roland Ludlam, Pastor of the Church of the Rock officiating. Interment will be held at the convenience of his family in Bellevue Memorial Gardens in Grovetown, Georgia. Walter's family will receive friends on Saturday from 4:00 P.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Franklin County Home Health Agency, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, Vermont 05478.
