Obituary for Yolande P. Garceau

Yolande P. Garceau St. Albans - Yolande P. Garceau, 79, a longtime area resident passed away Friday, July 6, 2007, following an extended illness at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Mary Garceau with her loving family at her side. She was born in West Shefford, Quebec on April 7, 1928, the daughter of the late Kilda and Ida R. (Brodeur) Stanislas. She was married to Jean Garceau, who preceded her in death on March 19, 1982. When Yolande came to Vermont, she spoke only French. She started working for Fonda Container right out of grade school and stayed with them for about twenty years. She also worked as head cook for the Holiday House for over twenty-five years, retiring in 1993. Yolande was a very sweet and independent person always wanting to give rather than receive. She was a wonderful cook and was sure to feed anyone who visited. Visits from her grandchildren and nieces were special and also the care given to her by her son, Roger. She will be missed by us all. Jeannine, Doris and Norman will especially miss their visits and the frequent daily phone conversations. Survivors include her two sons; Norman Garceau and his wife, Emma of Panama City, Florida and Roger Garceau and his wife, Mary of St. Albans, three grandchildren; Joe Garceau and his companion, Heather Guerin, of Montgomery, Peter Garceau and his wife, Jacey of St. Albans and Emily Garceau of Montgomery, her brother; Norman Stanislas and his wife, Anita of St. Albans, her two sisters; Jeannine Goodenough of St. Albans and Doris Larose and her husband, Bernard of St. Albans, two special nieces; Joyce Norcross Swoyer and Brenda Norcross Boucher and several nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Yolande was preceded in death by a great-grandson; Kyle R. Garceau on June 8, 2007, a nephew; Gary Larose on October 31, 1994, a great nephew; Timothy Swoyer on August 9, 1999, and a sister; Huquette. Yolande’s family would like to thank the Franklin County Home Health , Hospice Program and volunteers for the care she received during her illness, especially Kathy Gaudette, Barb Tabor and Tracie Pilbin. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 10, 2007, at 11:00 A.M. in Holy Angels Catholic Church on Lake Street with the Reverend Maurice J. Roy celebrating a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in the Garceau family lot in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Yolande’s family will receive friends on Monday from 5-8 PM in the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Franklin County Home Health Agency, Hospice Program, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, Vermont 05478.
