Obituary for Wellington "Sonny" W. Towle

Saint Albans - Wellington (Sonny) W. Towle age 94 passed away peacefully on Friday, November 4th, 2022, at his home with his family by his side. He was born March 29th, 1928, in Enosburg Falls, VT to Winthrop and Beatrice (Lumbra) Towle.


Raised in Enosburg/Richford Wellington married Theresa (Smith) on October 28th, 1950, they lived in Saint Albans where they raised their four children. Theresa passed away on December 5th, 2018.


Retiring from the Saint Albans Cooperative Creamery after 42+ years. Sonny enjoyed Creating woodworking projects and was famous to his family and friends for making his homemade Tuc games. He was a lifetime member of the American legion Green Mountain Post #1, the 758 Robert E. Glidden Post 758, VFW and an avid bowler. In later years he enjoyed playing pool on the American Legion Post 1 pool league and Cards on Tuesday nights.


His survivors include his children Robert Towle of Saint Albans Jane Towle and Jean Schefer of Vienna VA, Betty and Scott Popple of St Albans and their children Serge (Jason), Samantha, Great grandson Noah, and Laura and Donald Gilbert of Swanton and their children Nicholas (Karissa) Bouchard, Makayla and Kyle Gilbert.


He is also survived by his sister, Linda (Merl) Van Gieson, sisters-in-law, Annette Montagne, Maria (Donald) Ploof, Kathy Smith, Shirley Smith, brother-in-law, Carmen Mayhew and many nieces, nephews and cousins.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Rowland (Leona)Towle, sisters, Myrtle (Johnny)Bergeron, Janice (George) LaFountain, Luscious Wright, brothers in law, Raymond, Gerald, Armand, and Lawrence Smith, Lynwood West, Frank Montagne, Robert Frechette, sisters-in-law, Simone Frechette, Jane Mayhew, Rose West, Sister Cecile Smith and Clara Demers and son-in-law, Laurent Bouchard.


The family would like to thank the staff of Franklin County Home Health/Hospice over the last few days.


Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Thursday, November 10th, 2022 from 4-7pm at the Heald funeral Home, 87 South Main St., Saint Albans. A prayer service will be conducted at 4:00 PM by Father Christopher Micale.


A graveside service with military honors will be held in the summer of 2023 at the Holy Cross Cemetery.
