Obituary for Wayne J. Quilliam

Fairfield – Wayne J. Quilliam, a longtime area resident passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, December 24, 2013, at home with his wife Carla at his side. Born in St. Albans on November 14, 1954, Wayne was the son of Fredrick and Loretta (Gagne) Quilliam of St. Albans. Wayne was 59 years old. Wayne was a 1972 graduate of Bellows Free Academy and for many years was a conductor/engineer with the New England Central Railroad. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. Wayne enjoyed being with the people that he worked with and was loved by all. In addition to his parents, Fred and Loretta of St. Albans, he leaves his wife of 18 years, Carla, of Fairfield; daughters, Jessica Struhs and her husband, Zachary, of Hampton, Virginia and Aimee Sheehan of Milton; sons, Clovis Arel and his fiancée, Chelsea, of Belvidere and Kyle Arel and his friend, Heather, of St. Albans; grandchildren, Astanzi, Corbin, Colin, Ella, Makaio, Emma, Cody and Clovis. Wayne is also survived by his brothers, David, Raymond, Gordon and his wife, Kelly, all of Fairfield. He leaves his mother and father-in law, Amy and Lyle Gray of Coventry; his brothers and sister-in-law, Carl Warner of Bahama, NC; Mark Warner and his wife Deirdre of Raleigh, NC; and Kari Stringer of Burlington. He also leaves several nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles, as well as very special friends, Tom and Mary Machia, and Ron and Jennie Boudreau. Wayne’s smile could light a room when he was around his grandchildren. He loved them so very much. Wayne loved being outside in nature and enjoyed talking with people. He was fascinated with their stories and could pull a joke or two. In 2010, he built his wife a dream house, completing most of the work himself. He was soft spoken and a gentle giant. Wayne was a son, a Papa, a confidante, a father, a husband, and a best friend. He will be sorely missed. Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours on Sunday, December 29, 2013, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans. A funeral service will then be held in the Heald Chapel at 7:00 PM with the Reverend Maurice J. Roy of Holy Angels Parish officiating. Private interment will take place next spring. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Camp Ta-Kum-Ta, P.O. Box 459, South Hero, Vermont 05486.
