Obituary for Walter Timothy Sherrer
St. Albans - Walter Timothy Sherrer, 50, passed away on July 6, 2015, after a long and valiant battle with cancer. Born on June 19, 1965, Tim devoted his life to his family, especially his wife, Amy, and his daughter, Holly. Tim lived to see Holly grow up, attending every performance and celebrating every life event. He is remembered as a dedicated father, husband, son, and friend. Tim loved making music with his wife and daughter as they played saxophone trios at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. Many a day was spent in the woods hunting with his friends and his father, Walt. He had a passion for food--from growing it in his own garden to serving elaborate dinners at night--and enjoyed golfing, fishing, and bowling. Tim cherished both his annual hunting trips to Pennsylvania and his annual family vacations to Maine. Occasionally, he traded his bow and arrow for a subway map and brought the family to NYC, always the first to encourage his daughter’s love of Broadway and the theatre. Tim graduated from BFA St. Albans and earned a degree in Accounting from Champlain College. He was employed by Rock-Tenn, Inc. for over 25 years, completing his career as Coating and Quality Supervisor at the Rock Tenn Missisquoi Mill, a green belt for Six Sigma, and a coordinator of ISO. Tim leaves behind his wife of 18 years, Amy (Urban); his daughter, Holly; his father and stepmother, Walter and Judy Sherrer; his mother, Mary Jane Sherrer; and his sister, Kimberly. He also leaves his brother-in-law, Anthony Urban and Anthony’s wife, Amanda; nieces and nephew, Olivia Sherrer, Sophia Urban, and Sam Urban; close friends, Bill Sweeny, Leo Teague, Keith Brown, and many other cherished friends. The family especially thanks Annette Blanchard and Sophia Greenia from Hospice for their exceptional care in these last weeks, Pastors Megan Stowe and Marge Gage for their spiritual guidance, and Brianna Steber for her unconditional support. A celebration of Tim’s life will be held on Monday, July 13, 6:30 pm at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 11 Church St. Following the service, a reception will take place with friend and teacher Verne Colburn on jazz piano. The family respectfully requests no flowers. Donations in Tim’s memory can be made to the St. Paul’s Dancers (St. Paul’s UMC, 11 Church St., St. Albans, VT 05478) as Tim received no greater joy than watching Holly sing and dance, or to the Hospice Program, FCHH. (3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans). Hospice is an end-of-life care program that allows a person to stay at home during the final weeks of life. It made all the difference for Tim’s last weeks.
