ssex Ctr/St. Albans Bay, VT - Viola Best Neiburg, 90, a Williston and Essex Center resident and summer resident of St. Albans Bay passed away April 7, 2010, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care with her family at her side. Born on June 3, 1919, in Alburgh, she was the daughter of the late John Edwin and Margaret (Durkee) Best. On December 1, 1938, Viola and Samuel Cecil Neiburg were married. Sam preceded her in death on January 8, 1976. Viola was raised on the family farm in North Hero, attended the one room school house that her mother taught at and then attended Bellows Free Academy in St. Albans. Viola and Sam moved to St. Albans Bay and owned and operated the Shady Corners Cottages on Georgia Shore. She was a very active member of the St. Albans Bay United Methodist Church, especially their church suppers. She was a well organized person “there was a place for everything and everything had a placeâ€. Viola enjoyed cooking “always from scratchâ€. Her family especially enjoyed her homemade bread. Viola always enjoyed St. Albans Bay, whether it was family reunions or just enjoying camp and in her younger years it was ice skating with her brother Jay. Viola was a strong person and was always there for her children, always. Survivors include her son, Peter, of New York City; her daughter, Dorothy Neiburg, of Essex Center; her step-daughter, Ann Peterson, of Massachusetts; her brother, Jay William Best and his wife, Dorothy, of St. Albans Bay and several grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, Viola was preceded in death by her son, Thomas of Worcester, Massachusetts and step-son, Robert of Minnesota. Viola’s family would like to thank everyone for their support given to her and her family throughout the years. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, August 11, 2010, at 11:00 A.M. in the St. Albans Bay United Methodist Church on the Lake Road. Following the service, Viola’s family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall. With Viola’s love for the Bay, her family has asked that memorials be made to the St. Albans Area Watershed Association, P.O. Box 1567, St Albans, VT 05478.
