Obituary for Verna F. Kelley

St. Albans – Verna F. Kelley, 93, a resident of St. Albans since 1943, passed away Wednesday evening, January 20, 2010, at the Franklin County Rehab Center with her loving family at her side. Born in Montpelier, Vermont on June 7, 1916, Verna was the daughter of the late Elmer and Maude (Sleeper) Foster. She was married to Stuart L. Kelley, who preceded her in death on July 9, 1993. Verna was educated in Montpelier and graduated from Montpelier High School and then graduated from Castleton College in 1936. She was a longtime member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women Circle #1, Service Seekers of King’s Daughters, the St. Albans Garden Club and the Warner Home Board. She was a devoted wife and mother. She loved being with her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include her children, William Kelley and his wife, Gin Ah of St. Albans; James Kelley and his partner, Andy Kindig of Winthrop, Washington and Jean Miller and her husband, Leo of East Amherst, New York; ten grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and her daughter- in- law, Betsy Kelley of Randolph. In addition to her parents and husband, Stuart, Verna was preceded in death by her sons, Jeffrey Kelley in June 2003 and Richard Kelley in December 2004. Verna’s family would like to thank the staff at the Kings Daughters Home and the Franklin County Rehab Center for the loving care she received at those facilities and their support to her family. A funeral service will be held on Saturday January 23, 2010, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church on Church Street with the Reverend Herman Benjamin officiating. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall. Interment will be later this spring in the family lot in the St. Albans Bay Cemetery. Verna’s family will receive friends on Friday January 22nd from 7 to 9 P.M. at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St., St. Albans. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Verna’s name should be made to the Nature Conservancy of Vermont, 27 State Street, Suite 4, Montpelier, Vermont 05602.
