Obituary for Thomas Brislin O'Brien

St. Albans – Thomas Brislin O’Brien a resident of this area most of his life passed away, Sunday May 11, 2014, at the Northwestern Medical Center with his family at his side. Born in Rutland, Vermont on August 25, 1934, he was the son of the late Thomas Michael O’Brien, Esq and Lauretta (Brislin) O’Brien. Tom was 79 years old. On February 7, 1959, in Holy Angels Church, Tom married Susan Benoit, who survives him. Tom was a longtime Insurance man for A.N. Deringer retiring on September 1, 1996. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a very active life member of Green Mountain Post # 1, American Legion, where he served as commander from 1987 to 1989 and a member of Robert E. Glidden Post #758, Veterans of Foreign Wars. He also was a member of the former Owl Club and Kiwanis Club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and friends. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Susan, of St. Albans; their children, Maureen Coleman and her husband, Tim, of Swanton; Terry O’Brien and his wife, Ellen, of Swanton; his grandchildren, Britain Paquette, Seth Coleman, Kathleen Barnes, Kaili Krupp, Robert A. Krupp, Ian Sylvester, Hillary Sylvester, Rachel O’Brien, Logan Sylvester, Shannon O’Brien and Kate Sylvester and several great-grandchildren. Tom is also survived by his brother, Dr. Terrence O’Brien and his wife, Jean, of Montpelier, and his sister, Dr. Cathleen Capogeannis and her husband, William, of San Jose, California as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Thursday, May 15, 2014, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St., St. Albans. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 16, 2014, at 10:00 AM in Holy Angels Catholic Church, 245 Lake Street, St. Albans. Interment with military honors will be at a later date in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
