Obituary for The Reverend Charlene G. Saunders

The Reverend Charlene G. Saunders St. Albans - The Reverend Charlene G. Saunders, 84, passed away peacefully at Franklin County Rehab Center following a lengthy illness. She was born in St. Albans September 18, 1923, the daughter of the late Henry W. And Ruth E. (Kirby) Saunders. Charlene was employed as a secretary at Missisquoi Corporation in Sheldon Springs for 15 years, leaving to attend Union College in Barbersville, Kentucky and then Boston University. She became an ordained minister with the Troy conference of the United Methodist Church, serving in New York state in Watervliet, Cobbleskill, Troy, and Schenectady, and in Vermont in Burlington, Franklin, Fair Haven and Lyndonville. In her leisure she enjoyed crocheting, embroidering, reading and her cats. Charlene is survived by a sister, Shirley M. Saunders of St. Albans, a brother, Robert H. Saunders of Northford, CT, nieces and nephews; Michael, Tanya, John, Peter, Mark, Steven, and Jimmy, a special grand niece, Addie Mae Saunders-white and other grand nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and a sister-in-law, Dolores Saunders in November of 2007. A graveside funeral service will be held on Friday at 11:00 A.M. at the Saunders family lot in St. Albans Bay Cemetery with the Reverend Herman Benjamin, Pastor of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church officiating. There will be no visitation. Friends who wish may make memorial contributions to Franklin County Humane Society, 30 Sunset Meadows, St. Albans, VT 05478.
