Obituary for Teresa "Tessie" Bushey

St. Albans – Teresa "Tessie" Vincellette Bushey born on November 25th 1927, died peacefully at the home of her daughter and caregiver, Susan Jordan on August 28th 2014. Tessie was a lifelong resident of St. Albans and was a force to be reckoned with when it came to her community. She was involved in many local organizations. She raised thousands of dollars on behalf of the Franklin Grand Isle United Way through advertising and "special performances" that included dancing on desk tops and featured appearances. She also was a performer and advertiser for Cardiac Capers raising money for the Northwestern Medical Center from the shows beginning. She also served the hospital as one of its incorporators since the merger of Kerbs and NMC. She was proud to be a member of the VFW, American Legion, Catholic Daughters of America, St Jean the Baptist, NMC Ladies Auxiliary, Ladies of St Anne and especially Holy Angels Parish. Tessie was a lifelong participant in local politics and loved her democratic party though she was never afraid to be an independent voice and voter. Tessie was a friendly, familiar face who served voters at the polls and encouraged everyone to make their voices heard. Tessie was a passionate voice on public radio and our local public access television station. She also served as an advocate for the local fire and police department. She sat on the planning and zoning commission and served as an advisor for many City Managers and Mayors. Tessie was predeceased by her husband, Omry "Bubby" Bushey in 1985. She always said she did well for being an only child. She is survived by her three loving children: Mary King of Shelburne, VT; Susan Jordan of Swanton, VT and Michael Bushey of Richford, VT. Grandma Tess leaves her eight grandchildren: Amy Conant, Lori Barney, Ryan Jordan, Jenna Jordan, Sara Bushey, Heather Bushey, Erica Bushey, and Christopher Bushey. She was also blessed with six great grandchildren: Cassie and Isaac Bittner, Hailee Bushey, Jonathan Jordan, Tori Barney and her latest, Julia Teresa Barney. Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Sunday, August, 31, 2014, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, September 1, 2014, at 11:00 A.M. at Holy Angels Church, 246 Lake Street. Interment will follow in the family lot in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Her presence in this community is going to be sorely missed. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Tessie Bushey Scholarship Fund through TD Bank North, 8 North Main St., St. Albans, VT 05478.
