Obituary for Stanley R. Beauregard, Sr

St. Albans, VT – Stanley R. Beauregard, Sr., a lifelong resident and retired Post Master, passed away Thursday, July 16, 2015, with his family by his side at the Northwestern Medical Center. Born in St. Albans, VT, on August 6, 1932, Stan was the son of the late Fred and Adrienne (Bombardier) Beauregard. He was 82 years old. On January 3, 1953, in St. Albans, VT, at St. Mary’s Church, Stanley married his high school sweet-heart Jacquelyn Fortin, who survives him. Since graduating from Bellows Free Academy with the Class of 1951, Beauregard served the Franklin County community for over sixty years. When presenting him with the WIB’s Rick Manahan Award for Civic Involvement in 2012, Karen Luneau said, “His finger prints are everywhere.” Beginning with a career in journalism, Beauregard worked at the St. Albans Messenger for 11 years making his way from reporter to editor. On Dec. 29, 1961, John F. Kennedy appointed Stanley to be the St. Albans postmaster. He was 31 (the country’s youngest postmaster at the time). Thirty years later, Stan retired in 1991. Beauregard also served as a Bellows Free Academy Trustee chair; as promoter, initiator, board member, and chair for Northwest Access TV (Channel 15); a promoter and initiator of the Community College of Vermont, and a member of the Moose and Rotary fraternal organizations. Peter Smith, the first president of the Community College of Vermont called Beauregard “the father of CCV in Franklin County.” In addition to being the head of the committee that brought CCV to Franklin County, Stan also pushed for a consolidation of St. Albans’s two hospitals in the 1950’s--a merger that finally occurred in the late 1970’s. While Stan received many accolades in his later years, he always made it a point to note how it had always been a team effort between him and his wife, Jackie. He’d often say, “If I’m Samson, she’s my hair.” Furthermore, Stan also worked to see the creation of what now are the Missisquoi Valley Rail Trail, St. Albans Bay Park and Collins Perley Sports and Fitness Center. As Nat Worman wrote in an article for the St. Albans Messenger, “Stan the man…[was] a community Santa in his own way.” Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Jackie, of St. Albans; their children, Robert Beauregard of Discovery Bay, CA, Karen Trahan of Burlington, VT, Eric Beauregard of Charleston, NC, Lisa Richard and her husband, Rick, of Clinton, CT and Stanley Beauregard, Jr. of Jeffersonville, VT. He also survived by his nieces Diane Vieta and Debra Beauregard; as well as his grandchildren, Jeremy, Bobby, Jonny, Kara-Lynn, Miranda, Erica, Darcy, Julia, Justice and Marie, as well as several great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Stan was predeceased by a son, Mark P. Beauregard on May 6, 2004, and two brothers, Robert Beauregard and Gerald “Pop” Beauregard. Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Monday, July 20, 2015, from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St., St. Albans. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 21st at 11:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 45 Fairfield Street, St. Albans with the Reverend Maurice J. Roy as celebrant. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Vermont Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired, 60 Kimball Avenue, South Burlington, Vermont 05403.
