Obituary for Silas Morris Tiffany, Jr.

Fairfield - Silas Morris Tiffany, Jr., 81, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 26, 2012, at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans, VT, surrounded by family and friends. He was born in Fairfield on September 13, 1930, the son of Silas and Mary (Leach) Tiffany. Silas graduated from Enosburg Falls High School in 1950, and went to work on the family farm. In 1953, he married Cora Elizabeth Wanzer. Together they purchased a farm of their own, where he worked and lived for 59 years. Silas loved and was especially proud of his maple sugaring operation. He was a sixty-year member of the Lincoln Lodge # 78, Free and Accepted Masons, a life-long member of the United Methodist Church in Sheldon, VT, the St. Albans Co-op Creamery Association, and the Franklin County Maple Sugar Producers. In addition to a lifetime of farming and maple sugar production, Silas loved to hunt, fish, read, and spend time with family and friends. Silas was predeceased by his parents; his sister, Martha (Tiffany) Clifford; his three brothers-in-law, Vernon Rich, Lucius Hibbard, and John Clifford; and his niece, Mary Diane Clifford. He is survived by his wife Cora Tiffany; his sisters Ardelle (Tiffany) Rich, Helen (Tiffany) Hibbard, and Pauline (Tiffany) Cunningham and her husband, Daniel, all from St. Albans; his daughter, Susan Tiffany Kenoyer (with her husband, David Kenoyer) from Plattsburgh, NY; sons David, James, and Michael Tiffany (with his wife, Gabrielle Magnan Tiffany) from Fairfield; his grandchildren David Kenoyer (and his wife, Kim) of Cincinnati, OH, Brian Kenoyer (and his wife, Teresa and her son, Everest) of Hagerstown, MD, and Emmett, John, Michelle, Hannah, and Margaret Tiffany of Fairfield; along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. At Silas's request there will be no calling hours. A funeral service will be held at Heald Funeral Home, 87 S. Main St., St. Albans, at 11 AM on Monday, July 30, 2012, with Reverend Dr. Marguerite C. Gage officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Sheldon Cemetery in Sheldon, VT. Because of his love of maple sugaring and his involvement in the Fairfield Center School's Outdoor Classroom maple sugaring program, donations may be made in Silas’ name to: Outdoor Classroom Program, care of Julie Wolcott, 1345 Northrop Road, Enosburg Falls, VT, 05450.
