Obituary for Shirley M. Thibault
Swanton - Shirley M. Thibault passed away May 8, 2009, after a short illness with her beloved family at her side. Mrs. Thibault was born February 6, 1929, in Vergennes, Vermont. She was the daughter of Arthur J. and Mary (Signor) Hamel. Shirley was the wife of Philip Thibault and they recently celebrated their sixty-third wedding anniversary. Mrs. Thibault is survived by her husband, Philip; her daughter, Ann Leach and son-in-law, Chris of Swanton; her very dear grandchildren, Kerri Ann Leach and Steven C. Leach, as well as Steven’s wife, Betsy and their children, Connor and Ava. Shirley also leaves many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews one of whom is, Ashleigh Peterson, the daughter of Dr. Mary Ann and Keith Peterson. Shirley was predeceased by her parents; her sister, Elaine Patnode, who died in May of 1985 and her brother, Kenneth, who died in November of 1988. Shirley was a very accomplished woman who was a bit of an artist and had excellent taste for color and clothing. She worked for many years as a buyer for the William Doolin & Co in St. Albans. She was a member of several local organizations, Green Mountain Post # 1, American Legion Auxiliary, Robert E. Glidden Post # 758, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, Central Vermont Railroad Retirees Association and Franklin County Business and Professional Women. Shirley was an avid reader, crossword puzzle enthusiast, excellent cook and will be especially missed for her sense of humor. Shirley’s life always revolved around her family and was a fine example to her grandchildren, both of whom she saw graduate from college. She loved animals and both Shirley and Philip treasured pets in their home over the years. A funeral service will be held at Holy Angels Church on Lake Street in St. Albans on Friday, May 15, 2009, at 1:00 P.M. A reception will follow in the church parish hall. There will be no calling hours at the request of Shirley. Interment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Mrs. Thibault’s name to the Franklin County Humane Society, 30 Sunset Meadows, St. Albans, Vermont 05478.
