Obituary for Shirley B. Moss

Georgia: Shirley B. Moss, 91, of Georgia Plains passed away Wednesday, December 16, 2015, at Franklin County Rehab Center with her dear friend, Lucy Parent, at her side.
Born in Newport, VT July 6, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Ernest Abbott and Elida Lillian (Bragg) Spooner.
Shirley attended school in Newport and graduated from Derby High School in 1944. She was married to Elmont Moss on July 24, 1948. Together they operated a farm on Pattee Hill Road in Georgia until his passing on Nov. 21, 1967, at which time she moved to Georgia Plains. For many years Shirley cared for children in her home and was affectionately known as Aunt Shirley.
Shirley enjoyed knitting and crocheting and is known for the many beautiful afghans she has made. She was a lifetime member of Georgia United Methodist Church, serving on many committees. She was a member of U.M.W. and sang in the choir until her late 80s. Shirley volunteered at Kerbs Memorial Hospital (now NMC) for 29 years as a Grey Lady.
She leaves her sister, Rachel Magoon of Walldorf, Maryland, a niece, Ann Bright of Texas, a nephew, James Spooner of Derby, a cousin, Margie Lang and her husband, Arnold of St. Albans Bay. She also leaves her special friends and care givers, Lucy and Roger Parent and their children, also her close friend, Lee Carson of the Georgia United Methodist Church.
In addition to her husband, Elmont, Shirley is predeceased by her father, Ernest on Mar. 17, 1961, her mother, Elida on Jan. 02, 1981 and her brother, Willard Anderson Spooner on May 14, 1999.
Funeral services will be held Monday, December 21, 2015, at 3:00 PM in the Georgia United Methodist Church in Georgia with Rev. Hyung-Kyu Yi officiating, followed by a time of fellowship in the church hall. Spring interment will be in the Georgia Plains Cemetery.
Special thanks are extended to the staff of Franklin County Home Health, Holiday House and Franklin County Rehab Center for loving care given Shirley during her declining health.
