Swanton - Ruth Douglas,71, passed away unexpectedly October. 28, 2010, at Fletcher Allen Health Care after a lingering illness. Ruth was born October 10, 1939, the daughter of Helena (Rocheleau) Hemond and the late Philip Hemond. After graduation from B. F. A. St. Albans, Ruth followed her passion for nursing and attended Mary Fletcher Hospital School of Nursing. She then provided nursing care at the old St. Albans Hospital, Kerbs Memorial Hospital and the renamed Northwestern Medical Center. Over the years she worked at Rutland and Springfield Hospitals as well. In her later years she was employed by Doctors Corrigan, Shulman and Zsoldos and Physicians at the Georgia Health Center. Doctors and patients alike will remember Ruth for her exceptional care, uplifting personality and endless energy. Even years after attending to her patients Ruth always enjoyed greeting them with a large smile, hello and a check of their health and families. Ruth is survived by her best friend, partner and husband Jim of Swanton; her mother, Helena of Our Lady of the Meadows; her brother Gerard and his wife, Donna of Tavares, FL; her children and their spouses, Michael and Karen of Fairfield, Lynn of Camillus, NY, Gregory and Kim of St. Albans and Brian and Michelle of Highgate. Ruth’s greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren, Matthew, Evan, James, Brenna, Jonathan and Andrew. Ruth is also survived by her two nephews and their wives, Scott and Rose, Dwight and Tami and their children. Ruth is going to be missed by many close friends that all had a very special spot in her heart. Ruth and Jim enjoyed 51 years together, especially at their summer home on Lake Champlain. When the sun was shining they could be found boating with family and friends through the Islands with occasional trips to The Naked Turtle restaurant in Plattsburgh. Ruth’s life will be cherished and celebrated by her children and grandchildren who wish to emulate the abundant kindness she shared with others and the love, partnership and honor she showed Jim. There will be visiting hours Wednesday evening, November 3, 2010, from 6 to 9 PM at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 S. Main St., St. Albans. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Angels Church on Lake Street at 10 AM Thursday Nov. 4, 2010.
