Obituary for Ruth T. Schaefer

Ruth T. Schaefer St. Albans - Ruth T. Schaefer, 87, passed away Wednesday evening, September 27, 2006 at Northwestern Medical Center following a brief illness. She was born in Long Island, NY April 5, 1919, the daughter of the late Edward and Mae Theede. Mrs. Schaefer lived in St. Albans for eighteen months, coming from Madison NJ. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Past Matron of the Order of Eastern Star in Madison, and belonged to sewing and quilting clubs. She was very active in the Association for the Help of Retarded Children. She enjoyed sewing and seeing her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include two sons and their wives; Jim and Mary Gillis of Barre, VT, and Douglas and Lydia Gillis of Port Arthur, TX, a daughter and her husband, Roberta and George Geier of Dover, Delaware, a brother-in-law, Bernard Newton of Elmhurst, NY, two nephews, Ron and Jon Theede, eighteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. She was predeceased by two husbands, Frederick W. Schaefer and James S. Gillis, a son, Peter Gillis and daughter, Patricia Gillis. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, October 1, 2006 at 2:00 P.M. in St. Paul=s United Methodist Church with the Reverend Herman Benjamin officiating. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall of the church. Interment will be later in the family lot in Maple Grove Cemetery in Kew Gardens, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Vermont Special Olympics, 368 Avenue D, Suite 30, Williston, VT 05495 or the Holiday House Activity Fund, c/o Maddie Howard, 642 Sheldon Road, St. Albans, VT 05478.
