Obituary for Ruth A. Meigs

Ruth A. Meigs St. Albans - Ruth A. Meigs, a lifelong Summer resident of St. Albans, passed away early Friday, March 23, 2007, at the Brookside Nursing Home in White River Junction. She was born in Swanton, Vermont on August 4, 1914, to the late Edward J. and Charlotte Dorman (Stearns) Donaldson. She married Philip B. Meigs of St. Albans in 1922. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1983, her brothers, Ambrose, Carlton, Edward and her sister, Elva. She is survived by her sisters Alta Nardine, Edith Beliveau and sister-in-law Leonia. Her sons John W. Meigs and Dale D. Meigs of Homosassa Florida and their wives. Six grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She enjoyed her summers in Vermont working with her husband and kids at the many Fairs and Festival visiting friends and relatives. Come fall they would continue the work down the East Coast to her Florida home. She also enjoyed working around the house on the time off, sewing, mending, cooking, yard work, whatever needed to be done. She would welcome everyone with a smile and a hearty welcome to her home wherever it was at the time. Ruth continued her work into her 80’s when dementia set-in. She lived at the Crystal River Rehab for 3 years, where she was know as blue eyes, and she would welcome you with a smile and an offer of dinner or cookies. In June of last year, we moved her to Brookside to be closer to her sisters and nieces. The family wishes to thank the staff at Brookside Nursing Home and Crystal River Rehab for their compassionate kindness and care, making it truly a home for Ruth. Funeral services will be held on Friday May, 11, 2007, at 1:30 PM in the Heald Funeral Chapel, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans with Pastor Steve Cousino of the United Pentecostal Church of Jericho officiating. Burial will follow in the family lot in the St. Albans Bay Cemetery. Ruth’s family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 12:30 PM until the time of the service.
