Obituary for Ronald D. Wright

Ronald Douglas “Cody” Wright St. Albans - Ronald Douglas “Cody” Wright, 77, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, February 27, 2008, at his home. He was born in Saltillo, Arkansas on September 29, 1930, the son of the late Elijah and Masol (Taylor) Wright. Ronald graduated from Subacio Academy in Arkansas and then enlisted in the United State Navy serving as First Class Navy Chief during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. During his tour in Korea he received the Medal of Honor. Ronald furthered his career by becoming a pilot. He was stationed at the former St. Albans Radar base in 1951. Upon his discharge he became a commercial pilot and received his Civil and Engineering Certificates from Long Beach State College in California. He also attended Long Beach City College and University of Vermont. Ronald served as Manager of the Franklin County Airport in Highgate where he also gave flying lessons. He was a former member of the Franklin County Sportsman Club, Robert E. Glidden Post # 758, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Green Mountain Post # 1, American Legion. He enjoyed being a Ham Radio operator. For six years Ronald volunteered with the Franklin County Foster Grandparent Program and Samaritan House. Survivors include his former wife, Hazel (Powers) Wright of St. Albans; two sisters, Doris Brockelbank and Marjorie Stilley both of Bucyrus, Missouri; his son, Stephen Wright and his wife, Carol of California; a step-son, David Vincelette and his wife, Virginia of California; step-son, Alan Vincelette, Sr. and his wife, Mary Lou of St. Albans; a step-daughter, Rae Mancil and her husband, Reginald of Alabama. Ronald is also survived by twelve grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Ronald was preceded in death by his younger brother, Robert Wright. A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 3, 2008, at 11:00 A.M. in the Heald Funeral Chapel, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans with the Reverend William D. Simmons, Pastor of the First Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Ronald’s family will receive friends on Monday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
