Obituary for Robert Theodore Hurlburt

Robert Theodore Hurlburt Georgia, Vermont - Robert Theodore Hurlburt, 87 passed away on Thursday, August 2, 2007, at the home of his niece, Shelley Bonnett and her husband, Gene, with whom he has made his home with since his wife passed away. He was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia on March 26, 1920, the son of the late Medrich and Anne (Benedict) Hurlburt. On October 14, 1945, Robert married the former Katherine Leclair, who preceded him in death on March 18, 2006. Robert entered the United States Army in November of 1942 and was honorably discharged in September of 1945; he then enlisted with the United States Marines Corps in October of 1945, and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in February of 1952. After serving in World War II and the Korean Conflict he returned to Boston, Massachusetts as a carpenter/painter. For many years Robert was employed at the Milford Hospital in the Maintenance Department. After his retirement, Robert could be found at area craft shows with his woodworking items. He loved the outdoors, camping, fishing, gardening, feeding God’s little creatures and he enjoyed life as it came. He was also an avid Red Sox fan. Always a gentleman, he passed away with dignity and grace, doing it his way to the end. Survivors include his “Vermont Gang” (as he loved to call us), nieces and nephews, Shelley Bonnett and her husband, Gene of Georgia, their children; Travis Bonnett and his wife, Gale and their children; Alex and Kaela, Tracey Barrett and her husband, Timmy and their daughter, Tayton. He also leaves several nieces and nephews through out the United States. In addition to his parents and wife, Robert was preceded in death by his siblings, Ralph Hurlburt, Grace Fletcher, Ann Fletcher, Phyliss Heuder, Mable Nicholson, Myrtle Wentzel, and Madeline “Maddy” Bourgeois. Robert’s family would like to thank the Franklin County Home Health Agency/Hospice team for the wonderful care given him and them during this hard time. A special thanks to Shelley’s best friend, Cheryl Sylvester, who gave Uncle Bob much love and tender care during this part of his life. Thanks also to Drs. Stewart Manchester, Terri Nielson and Christian Thomas. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 6, 2007, at 9:00 A.M. in St. Mary’ s Catholic Church in Franklin, Massachusetts. Interment will at 11:30 A.M. in the Veterans Administration National Cemetery of Massachusetts in Bourne, Massachusetts. Robert’s family will receive friends on Sunday, August 5th from 3-7 P.M. at the Ginley Funeral Home, 131 Main Street, Franklin, Massachusetts.
