Obituary for Robert Henley Newton

Georgia – A lifelong resident of Georgia, Vermont, Robert H. Newton born at home June 27, 1924 son of Park and Ruth Newton, died peacefully of natural causes at Homestead Senior Living facility in St. Albans, Vermont.

He is survived by his children and their spouses; Linda DuHamel (and Roger) of Milton, Lana Heinzmann of Stegen, Germany, and Park Newton (and Nancy) of Georgia. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and their spouses; Deanna Waldrop (and Bryce) of York, ME, Melanie Long (and Matt) of New Market, MD, Cara Gyoervari (and Lars) of Kirchzarten, Germany, Tina Sexauer (and Manuel) of Forst, Germany, Chad Newton of Georgia, VT, Tansy Olio (and Nick) of Knightdale, NC, Dylan Newton (and Cecila) of Opelika, AL, Brant Newton (and Erica) of Sheldon, VT, Angus Newton of Georgia, VT, Ethan Newton (and Devyn) of St. Albans VT, Jonathan Newton of St. Albans, VT, Monica Newton of St. Albans, VT and 20 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

He was predeceased by his wife Janice, parents Park and Ruth Newton, brother Stuart Newton (and Esther), sister Elizabeth Paterson (and James), sister Rebecca Ballard (and Alden) and son-in-law Fred Heinzmann.

Bob was a lifetime dairy farmer in Georgia. Immediately after graduating from BFA St. Albans in 1942, he began working full-time for his father on Pleasant Hill Farm. He married Janice Skeels in 1946. He continued to work on the farm and eventually purchased the property in 1974. He retired in June 1987 when he & Janice began traveling to Florida. They spent their winters there together until Janice died in 2001 and Bob continued until 2013. Over the years he served the town of Georgia on the Zoning Board of Adjustment, School Board and Board of Civil Authority. He also served on various committees of the Farm Bureau, Franklin County Extension Service, Eastern A.I., Agway, Farm Credit and Co-op Fire Insurance.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
