Georgia – Richard Ernest “Dick†Carroll, 83, a resident of Georgia, Vermont since 1988, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 21, 2010, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care with his loving family at his side. Born on December 31, 1926, he was the son of the late Michael and Lillian (Holmquist) Carroll. On July 29, 1961, in St. Mark’s Church in New Britain, Connecticut, Dick married Judith Jackson, who survives him. Dick graduated from Plainville High School and then joined the United States Navy, serving during World War II. In 1983, after more than forty years as a Chevrolet dealer, he retired as proprietor of A&C Motor Company in Plainville. He was a longtime member of the Plainville Volunteer Fire Department. He previously served on the Church Vestry at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church Survivors include his wife of forty-eight years, Judith Carroll of Georgia; their five children, Evelyn Carroll of Milton; Richard Carroll and his wife, Karen of Vernon, Vermont; Katherine Mashtare and her husband, Alan of St. Albans; Laura Carroll of Georgia; Stephen Carroll and his wife, Pia of Mamaroneck, New York; thirteen grandchildren, Kathryn, Michael, Patrick, Devon, Makaylah and Jasmine Mullins, Matthew, Jennifer and Thomas Carroll, Molly and Mason Mashtare and Jackson and Richard Carroll. Dick is also survived by his brother, Michael Carroll, Jr. of Plainville, Connecticut; by a sister, Marion Kirkwood and her husband, Tom of Burlington, Connecticut; a sister-in-law, Leotrice Carroll of Plainville, Connecticut; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, William R. Jackson and his wife, Joan of St. Augustine, Florida; many nieces and nephews and many lifelong friends. In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his sister and her husband, Doris and Joseph LaBel and a brother, Robert Carroll. Dick's family would like to thank Dr. Pitcher and Dr Kapeless and their staff for the care he received. A funeral service will be held on Monday January 25, 2010, at 11:00 A.M. in St. Luke’s Episcopal Church on the corner of Fairfield and Church Streets in St. Albans. Interment will be later this spring in St. Albans Bay Cemetery. Dick’s family will receive friends on Sunday, January 24th from 3 to 7 PM in the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans.
