St. Albans – Richard A. O’Connell, 63, a lifelong resident of this area passed away on Thursday, December 8, 2011, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in St. Albans, on November 23, 1948, the son of the late Fay and Grace (Stone) O’Connell. On May 29, 1976, in Bakersfield, Dick married Martha Larose, who survives him. Dick was a 1966 graduate of Bellows Free Academy and then enlisted in the U.S. Army and went on to serve two tours of duty in Viet Nam. On March 17, 1969, he was wounded and then was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He came back to St. Albans and was a journeyman for several area companies and was a member of Local 693 Plumber, Pipefitters & HVACR Technicians Union. Dick was also a member of the St. Albans Lodge # 1566, B.P.O.E. where he served as Exalted Ruler, a member of Green Mountain Post # 1, American Legion and a past member of the Bakersfield Country Club. Survivors include his wife of thirty five years, Martha of St. Albans; their two daughters, Samantha Isgett and her husband, Sean, and their children, Bailey and Audrey all of Goose Creek, SC and Faye O’Connell and her companion, Jeremy Pappano, and her children, Isabelle and Vincent all of Highgate; his siblings, Donna and Donald Bower of Temple, TX, Philip and Heidrun O’Connell of Palm Harbor, FL, David and Connie O’Connell of St. Albans, and Gloria and Gary Geddes of Fairfield; his sister-in-law, Pam O’Connell of St. Albans and his canine companion, “Sashaâ€. Dick is also survived by his in-laws, Bernadette and Charles Larose, his brothers-in-law, Pierre and Rosaire Larose; his sister-in-law, Kathleen Paradee and her husband, Danny, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his brothers, Thomas and Gary. Relatives and friends are invited to attend St. Albans Lodge # 1566 ritualistic service on Tuesday, December 13, 2011, at 6:30 PM at the Elks Lodge on Grice Brook Road followed by a flag presentation to his wife. Dick’s family will then receive friends at the Lodge. Those wishing to honor the memory of Dick are asked to contribute to the Franklin County Home Health Agency, Hospice Program, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, VT 05478.
