Rev. Maurice Edwin Clinger slipped into the presence of Jesus at The Manor in Morrisville with his family at his side. He was born June 26, 1917 in Marseilles, OH, to Ira and Ruth Chandler Clinger. Maurice graduated from Upper Sandusky, Ohio High School and Ohio Northern University, his mother's alma mater. He taught fifth grade in Marseilles and preached in neighboring Methodist churches. After attending Asbury Seminary he and his wife Arline went to Colombia as missionaries with the Southern Methodists. On returning to the States, they joined the Church of the Nazarene, pastored a Mexican church in Albuquerque, NM, and attended Nazarene Theological Seminary, in Kansas City, MO, pastoring Mexican churches there. They also worked in churches several years in Baja California. While teaching at Nazarene Bible Institute in San Antonio, TX, in 1957 he was appointed missionary to Mexico where he served as treasurer for the four districts and director of the Language School until his retirement in 1976. May 2, 1970 Maurice married Merilyn Manchester in Waterville where they settled until moving to the farm on Hogback Road in Cambridge. He continued his education at CCV, studied the Word of God, and visited home bound people reading the Scriptures to them. He loved travel and especially enjoyed his trip to the Holy Land.. His wife survives him as do his son Maurice Ira "Mic" in Parker, Colorado, daughter Merilyn Ruth "Mel" and Ron Miller, Caleb and Megan in Colorado Springs, son John and Karen, Joshua, Rachel and Isaiah in Lowell, VT, sister Alice Kear in Carey, OH, several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Richard and sister-in-law Carolyn Hover. The family will be receiving friends at the Waterville Church of the Nazarene Sunday afternoon from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 9, 2010 in Waterville. The family requests that in lieu of flowers those who wish to do something in his memory contribute to the Church of the Nazarene in Ixtapan de la Sal, Mexico, by sending gifts to LVCN, P.O. Box 384, Johnson, VT 05656. Arrangements are by Lucien Hayes and Heald Funeral Home, St. Albans. Private condolences are welcomed at www.healdfuneralhome.com
