Franklin – Reuben A. Glidden, 86, passed away on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington with his family by his side. Reuben was born on April 12, 1927 in Franklin, the son of John and Bertha (Bates) Glidden. He attended school in East Franklin and served in the United States Army during WW II. A lifelong resident of Franklin, Reuben was a member of the Franklin United Church, was a founder and leader of the Boy Scout Troop, a member of the VFW – Robert Glidden Post # 758 in St Albans and a former member of the Masons and Order of the Eastern Star. In his early years, he worked at Blue Seal Feeds in Richford and, later at Missisquoi Standard Packing in Sheldon Springs and IBM in Essex. Reuben also worked for a temp agency at Twincraft in Winooski and Ben and Jerry’s in St. Albans and was last employed at Century Arms in Georgia. While working at Missisquoi Packing he also owned and operated the Lake Carmi bowling alley and snack bar from 1964 to 1974. Reuben is survived by his loving children, Lyle J. Glidden and his partner Robert Bender Glidden of Franklin and Penny G. Taylor and her husband Bruce of Richmond MA; nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Reuben was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Daisy (Ploof) Glidden; his grandparents Ben and Sarah Glidden; 5 sisters and 1 brother. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the Franklin United Church, 5414 Main St. in Franklin with Rev. Jason McConnell officiating. Interment will follow in the Glidden Family lot at the Franklin Village Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St. in St. Albans on Monday, December 2 from 3:00 to 6:00 PM. Reuben’s family requests that flowers be omitted. Should friends desire gifts in Reuben’s memory may be made to Franklin County Home Health, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, VT 05478.
