Obituary for Rene E. Gauthier

Rene E. Gauthier Swanton/St. Albans - Rene E. Gauthier, 51, a lifelong resident of this area, passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, August 22, 2007 at Haven Health Care following a lengthy struggle with Muscular Dystrophy. His loving family and friends were at his side. He was born in St. Albans April 5, 1956, the son of the late George E. and Theresa M. (Lessor) Gauthier. On April 4, 1991 he married his soul mate, Rose M. Favreau in St. Albans. Rene worked as an inspector for Digital Corporation from 1977 to 1992. He also worked as a teachers aide in Highgate Elementary School. He loved sports and was an avid Dallas Cowboy, Montreal Canadian, and Detroit Tiger fan. His favorite past time was lovingly joking with and picking on anyone in his sights. No one was safe from his antagonism. He was always there to lend an ear and offer a shoulder to cry on. He was a loyal friend and gave freely of himself. In addition to his loving wife of over 16 years, Rose, of Swanton, Rene is survived by two children, Matthew Barnes and Amanda Gooding of St. Albans, his grandson, the apple of his eye, Conner Bryce Gooding, on whom the sun rose and set in Grampy’s world. He also leaves two sisters; Georgette Lauzon of Swanton and Denise Tuttle and her husband, Tom, of Swanton and a brother, Maurice Gauthier of Alburgh, two brothers-in-law, Paul Favreau and his wife, Kathi of Georgia, VT, and John Favreau and his wife, Becky of Deland, FL, and his mother-in-law, Leona Favreau of St. Albans. Also, many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and the many friends he made throughout his life, especially his extended family of staff and residents at the Haven Health Care. He was predeceased by his parents, his father-in-law, Paul Favreau, Sr., and brother-in-law, Hank Lauzon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11:00 A.M. in Holy Angels Catholic Church with the Reverend Maurice E. Roy as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Favreau family lot in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A luncheon will follow in the Parish Center. Visitation will be in the Heald Funeral Home, 87 So. Main St., St. Albans from 9:30 to 10:30 A.M. before the funeral on Tuesday.
