Obituary for Raymond P. Gladden

Georgia/Swanton – Raymond P. Gladden, 91, a resident of Georgia since 1971 and a former resident of Swanton, passed away on Wednesday April 4, 2012, at the Franklin County Rehab Center with his family at his side. Born on April 6, 1920, in Cote Junction, Quebec, Ray was the son of the late Ernest W. and Jessie Marie (Camp) Gladden. On May 29, 1971, in St. Luke’s Episcopal Church Ray married Reba (Trombley) Berger who preceded him in death on January 12, 1996. Ray entered the United States Army in 1941 and received his Honorable Discharge in 1945. He then was employed by the Union Carbide Corporation for 32 years as a machine operator, retiring on July 31, 1979. To everyone who knew Ray, he was known as a kind and patient man. Survivors include his six children, Raymond Gladden and wife, Karen, of St. Albans, Norma Emerson of North Hyde Park, Barbara Farnsworth and husband, David, of Tunbridge, Susan Hurst and husband, Richard, of Acton, Maine, Jean Dolliber and husband, Dana, of Sanford, Maine and Bernard Gladden and wife, Susan, of Swanton; his sister, Donna Daidone of Vero Beach, Florida and his grandchildren, Sarah, Sam, John, Tim, Kate, Rebecca and Jessica. Ray is also survived by several nieces and nephews; Mrs. Millie Shepard a very special and dear friend; his stepchildren, Rodney Berger and wife, Joyce, of Swanton, Kay Siewert of Helena, Montana, Joan Russell and husband, Burr, of Sheldon, Beverly Aucoin of Burlington, Nancy Bowlby and husband, James, of Enosburg and Marlene Garceau and husband, Henry, of St. Albans and many many step grandchildren and step great-great grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife of 26 years, Reba, Ray was preceded in death by six sisters, Doris, Naomi (Billie), Jean, Shirley, Marion, Grace and his brother, Bernard. Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Monday, April 9, 2012, from Noon to 2:00 PM at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans. A funeral service will then be held on Monday at 2:00 PM in the Heald Chapel with the Reverend David Veale officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Ray’s name to the Franklin County Human Society, 30 Sunset Meadows, St. Albans 05478 or Northern Greyhound Adoptions, 999 Fairfax Road, St. Albans, 05478.
