Obituary for R. Keith Dunham

R. Keith Dunham South Burlington/St. Albans - R. Keith Dunham, 83, went home to the Lord on Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at his residence in South Burlington, with his loving family by his side. He was born in Franklin, VT, September 10, 1924, son of the late Marshall and Louise (Messier) Dunham. Keith was a graduate of Franklin High School and attended St. Michael’s College where he was a starting member of the varsity baseball team. He was a resident of the St. Albans area for 49 years. He served six years as City Alderman and in later years on the Planning Commission for St. Albans Town. He co-hosted a radio talk show at the St. Albans Radio Station and wrote a weekly column for Franklin County newspapers for a number of years. He also served on the Board of Appraisers. Keith was an avid baseball, football and basketball fan and played in the St. Albans City Softball League where he was known by his teammates as “Scooter”. He was a licensed basketball official in the Northwestern High School League. He was employed by Homer W. Hungerford and Sons, and for five years was one of Ford’s top 50 salesmen in the New England Region. He later joined the staff of John Hancock Insurance Company as a Marketing Representative, and soon became a national sales leader. In 1987 he placed 7th among the Company’s 5000 sales representatives. He retired in 1988 after 28 years of service. On September 20, 1944 Keith married Marion LaBounty at St. Mary’s Church in St. Albans. Besides his wife of 63 years, he is survived by four children and their spouses, Rae Laitres and her husband, Richard of St. Albans, Ann Wallace and her husband, Lawrence of Williston, Larry Dunham and his wife, Marcia of South Burlington, and Susan Rantanen and her husband, John of Rutland; five grandchildren, John Laitres and his wife, Danielle, Jennifer Belter and her husband, Todd, Jeff Wallace, Kelly Wallace, Lori Linn and her husband, Joseph; four great grandchildren, Elijah Laitres, Josiah Laitres, Kaiya Linn and Carter Linn, and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Doris Ravlin in 2005, and three infant brothers. The family would like to express a thank you to Dr. Beatty, the staff of Pillsbury Manor and the VNA for the care and support they provided. A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 1:00 P.M. in the Heald Funeral Chapel. Pastor Bruce Patterson of the Northside Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will be in the family lot in St. Albans Bay Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the VNA Hospice, c/o Kim Fox, 1110 Prim Road Ste 1, Colchester, VT 05446.
