St. Albans – Pauline L. Fisher, 86, died Thursday August 23, 2012, after an extended illness, with her loving family by her side. Polly was born on July 1, 1926, in Foster, Quebec, to Mary Louise (Vincent) and Alfred Joseph Larivee. She grew up on both sides of the border and graduated from Richford High School, where she was an honors student and avid basketball player, in 1945. She went on to attend the Bishop DeGoesbriand Hospital School of Nursing in Burlington, VT, and graduated with her RN in 1948. She worked at the DeGoesbriand as a nurse-anesthetist prior to her marriage to Dr. John G. Fisher on November 27, 1954. After their children were grown, she returned to work with her husband in his dental practice. In her spare time, she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, playing bridge, traveling with John and good friends, and antiquing and auction going. After retirement, she was able to indulge another lifelong interest and she became an accomplished and beautiful quilter. Polly is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann Fisher and partner, Cary Pearsall, of St. Albans; son John Matthew Fisher and partner, Lori Palmer, of Underhill; grandchildren, Jack, Halley, Sam and Caroline Fisher and their mother, Nancy Carlson; sister-in-law, Anne Fisher; brother-in-law, James Brady; cousin-in-law, Beverly Post; and many wonderful nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 49 years, John Griffin Fisher, on September 30, 2003. She was also predeceased by her sisters, Leona Coderre and Theresa Larivee; brother, Roger Larivee and his wife, Marie; sister-in-law, Sally Fisher Brady; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Carol Carney Fisher; and cousin-in-law, Farrington “Babe†Post. Polly’s family would like to thank the many good people at Holiday House and the Franklin County Rehab Center who have shown great kindness to her and to us over these many years. We would also like to thank all the friends who have visited and who have kept her in their thoughts and prayers. Charlotte Donlon, fellow quilter and most faithful correspondent, has never missed a birthday or a Christmas. Polly’s dear sister-in-law, Anne Fisher and her best friend, Madalyn Tulip remained faithful visitors to the end, and for this we will always be grateful. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 28, 2012, at 11:00 AM in St. Mary’s Church on Fairfield Street in St. Albans. Private interment will follow in the family lot in Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Polly’s memory may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association, Vermont Chapter, 1 Prospect St. Burlington, VT 05401 or to the Franklin County Rehab Center, Activities Fund, 110 Fairfax Road, St. Albans, VT 05478.
