St. Albans - Paul “Aime†Rocheleau, 87, a life long St. Albans resident, passed away on Monday, June 30, 2008, at the home of his daughter, Jeannie Paquette, with his loving family at his side. Born in his home on 51 North Elm Street on September 12, 1920, he was the son of the late Armand and Orise (Lamoth) Rocheleau. On September 12, 1947, in Houlton, Maine, Aime married the former Fernaida Marie Pelletier, who preceded him in death on April 15, 1999. Aime enlisted in the United States Army on October 5, 1940, and served with the 43rd Infantry Division at Guadalcanal, Northern Solomons, New Guinea and Luzon. He received the Bronze Star and other awards. He was honorably discharged from the Army on August 8, 1945. He received his discharge on September 12, 1980, from the Army National Guard. He retired on December 28, 1979, after over 30 years of service with the United States Border Patrol. Aime received his high school diploma from Bellows Free Academy in St. Albans on June 15, 2003. He was a member of Holy Angels Parish, Past Commander of Robert E. Glidden Post# 758, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Past District Commander and Special Aide de Camp for the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and State Chief of Staff for the VFW in 1981-82. He was a member of Green Mountain Post #1, American Legion, a member and past president of the Society of St. Jean De Baptiste. In recent years, Aime was very active in the Veterans Funeral Honor Guard. Aime operated a used car dealership for several years and enjoyed restoring cars. Survivors include his two sons, Paul Alan Rocheleau of Swanton and Patrick Rocheleau of Dunkirk, New York; his three daughters, Jeannie Paquette of St. Albans, Jo-Ann Tuttle of Lumberton, North Carolina and Mary Ann Schroeder and her husband, John of Fernandina Beach, Florida, his four grandchildren, Jeff Rocheleau and his wife, Heather, Tyron Rocheleau, Gabriel Rocheleau and Zoilo Rodriguez, two great grandchildren, Emily Fernaida and Cooper Aime Rocheleau his step-brothers, Rene Rocheleau and his wife, Judy, of Swanton and Bernard Rocheleau and his wife, Ann Marie, of North Carolina. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Ulric Rocheleau and a sister, Armelle Sullivan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 3, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at Holy Angels Roman Catholic Church with Father Maurice Roy as Celebrant. Visitation will be on Wednesday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 So. Main St., St. Albans, VT. Interment will be in the family lot in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Friends who wish may make memorial contributions to Fisher House Foundation, 1401 Rockville Pike, Suite 600, Rockville MD 20852.
