St. Albans - Patricia P. Newton, 77, a longtime resident of St. Albans and former educator passed away on Tuesday July, 1, 2008, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington with her loving family at her side. Born in Peterborough, New Hampshire on October 1, 1930, Pat was the daughter of the late Cyrus and Edith (Williams) Phelps. On September 9, 1951, in Hillsboro, New Hampshire, Pat married Donald J. Newton, who preceded her in death on May 5, 2004. Pat graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College and retired from Bellows Free Academy in St. Albans in 1992 after twenty three years as a Home Economics teacher. She was a very active member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir, belonged to the United Methodist Women, and the Phi Alpha Class. Pat also was a member of the Vermont Teachers Education Association, the Nationals Teachers Education Association and A.A.R.P. Survivors include her children, Stephanie Baybrook and her husband, Robert of New Port Richey, Florida; Brian Newton and his wife, Linda of Mooresville, North Carolina; Pamela Osborne and her husband, Gordon, Jr. of Essex Junction; Eric Newton and his wife, Melody of Florence, Massachusetts and Kimberly Underhill and her husband, Douglas of Essex; ten grandchildren, Jaclyn and Jennifer Baybrook, Candice and Sean Newton, Kyle and Amanda Osborne, Ashley and Kayla Newton and Kendra and Brandon Underhill, one great grandchild, Breanna Newton. Pat is also survived by her sisters, Beverly Flynn and her husband, James of Ocala, Florida and Catherine McCulloch of Hillsboro, New Hampshire; her brother, Roger Phelps and his wife Connie of Greenfield, New Hampshire, her step-sister, Barbara Marchisio of Holiday, Florida and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 7, 2008, at 2:00 P.M. at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church on Church Street with the Reverend Herman Benjamin officiating. A reception will immediately follow the service in the fellowship hall. Interment will be in the family lot in Greenwood Cemetery. Pat’s family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans.
