Obituary for Patricia Brooks Earle

St. Albans – As the sun was setting, July 11, 2015, Patricia B. Earle, 92, passed on to Heaven peacefully and was reunited with her husband, Robert. Born on Christmas Day, 1922, at home in St. Albans Bay on the site that is now The Hathaway Inn, she was the daughter of the late, Lawrence and Mabel (Blake) Brooks. As a preemie baby, she was kept in a turkey roaster on the oven door. She truly was a strong willed woman from the start. On June 30, 1945, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, she married Robert D. Earle, who preceded her in death on November 3, 2000. They would have celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary this year. Patricia was a 1940 graduate of Bellows Free Academy in St. Albans and furthered her education at William & Mary College in Fredericksburg, VA. She was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church and its choir for over 50 years, was the first female member of the Owl Club, solely to be able to play bridge; a life member of the Autonoe Club, a member of St. Albans Duplicate Bridge Club, and a proud member of the American Contract Bridge League. Her Monday night duplicate bridge club friends were so special to her. Birthdays were special to Patricia. Her family’s birthdays never started until she called them and sang “Happy Birthday”. Survivors include her loving family, Leslie Kutner and husband, Daniel, and their children, Tadd McDonald and Sarah McDonald Smith and husband, John; Cynthia Marcinkowski and husband, Carl, and daughter, Stacey Lemieux and husband, Adrian Ludka; Robin Walsh and husband, Timothy, and their children, Erin Walsh Kopacz and husband, Doug, and Sean Walsh; and Andrew Earle and Sherri, as well as 2 great-grandchildren, Kai Ludka and Elliot Smith. Patricia is also survived by brother-in-law, James Bliss and wife, Irene, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Natalie “Nan” and Clarence “Tink” Wilson, cousins, Arthur Heald and wife, Averill, and Bud Brooks, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Patricia was preceded in death by her sister, Virginia Bliss, and nephews, Craig Bliss and Jay Bliss and her brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Edwin Earle, and Norman and Catherine Earle. Family and friends are invited to Patricia’s home, 26 Berkley Terrace, St. Albans, on Friday, July 17th from 1:00 to 4:00 PM. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 18th, at 1:00 PM at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans. Messages of condolence to Patricia’s family are welcome at Her family requests that, in Patricia’s memory, a good deed be done for someone less fortunate. Contributions in Patricia’s memory may be made to Franklin County Home Health Agency, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, Vermont 05478. The family wishes to thank the Franklin County Rehab and all those who have helped with her care. We will be forever grateful. I'd like the memory of me to be a happy one, I'd like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done I'd like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways, Of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days. I'd like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun Of happy memories that I leave When life is done.
