Obituary for Oscar E. Carlson

St. Albans – Oscar E. Carlson, 80, a retired Central Vermont Railway engineer, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday November 12, 2013, at Northwestern Medical Center. Born August 15, 1933, in Collbran, Colorado, he was the son of the late Oscar and Beulah (Lorimor) Carlson. He married Clarabelle Bruso April 3, 1954, in Swanton. She preceded him in death on October 14, 1999. Oscar was a Korean War veteran, serving in the U.S. Air Force. He was a life member of Green Mountain Post # 1, American Legion and Robert E. Glidden Post # 758, VFW and was a member of the Railroad Veterans Association, AARP and NRA. He was also a member and former Deacon of the First Congregational Church of St. Albans. Oscar enjoyed hunting, fishing and riding his motorcycle and was a dedicated volunteer at the Samaritan House and Martha’s Kitchen. Survivors include three children and their spouses, Don and Marge Cota of Peacham, Ken and Linda Cota of Savannah, GA and Carla Trombly and companion, Mike Bushey, of St. Albans; 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandson; his siblings, Carol Holt of Washington and Sandra Cook and husband, Elton, of California as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Oscar was predeceased by a sister, Dora Bennett and Helen Marriott. Visiting hours will be 6:00 to 8:00 PM Friday, November 15, 2013, at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street, followed by his funeral service at 8:00 PM in the Heald Chapel with Rev. Judith Steger Kennedy officiating. Interment will be in the Bruso family lot in Greenwood Cemetery, St. Albans.
