Obituary for Norma Ruth Caswell

Highgate Center – Norma Ruth Caswell, 84, a former resident of 12 Sawyer Street in St. Albans, passed away Tuesday evening, December 16, 2008, at the Northwestern Medical Center with her loving family at her side. Born in St. Albans on April 30, 1924, Norma was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Clara (Geer) Newland. On April 3, 1943, in St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Norma married Earl O. Caswell, who preceded her in death on August 14, 2007. Norma was a 1942 graduate of Bellows Free Academy in St. Albans. Norma enjoyed spending her summers at camp on Lake Champlain. Norma and Earl were very proud of the 1931 Chevy they restored together and took “Best in Show” in August of 1984 at Stowe, Vermont. She enjoyed knitting mittens and sweaters that she gave to her family. Norma was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. Survivors include her daughter, Dawna Langlais and her husband, Leonard of Highgate and their children, Dawna Czuchrey and her daughter, Megan Ruth, Edward Czuchrey, II and his children, Winter and Given; daughter-in-law, Jill Caswell of Fairfield and her children, Jennifer Burnor and husband, Phillip and their children, Adam and wife, Tiffany and Josh, Warren Caswell and wife, Tonya and their children, Sammy and Rosie, and Randy and his son, Christopher; son, Peter Caswell and his wife, Beth of Montana and their children, Karen Fowler and husband, Steve and their children, James and Jacob, Rebekah Miller and husband, Homer and their children, Wyatt, Garrett and Olivia, Sarah Caswell and fiancé, Dominic Pisciotta, Jeffrey Caswell and wife, Noelle and their children, Brandon and Scott, and Ian Caswell. Norma is also survived by her brothers-in-law, Charles “Bud” Caswell of Swanton, Gordon Raine of St. Albans and Fay Caswell of Florida, several nieces , nephews and friend for life, Mary Jane Hance Barber. In addition to her parents and husband, Earl, Norma was preceded in death by a son, Timothy E. Caswell, granddaughters, Wendy and Shannon and a brother, Dwight Newland. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2008, at 2:00 P.M. in the Heald Funeral Chapel, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans with the Reverend Jean E. Austin, Rector at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church and former Rector, Canon Stanley H. Irving officiating. Interment will be next spring in the Caswell family lot in the Greenwood Cemetery. Norma’s family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 12:00 Noon until the time of the service.
