Obituary for Norma J. Gratton

Milton/St. Albans – Norma J. Gratton, 72, a former resident of St. Albans, passed away peacefully Sunday November 28, 2010, at the home of her daughter, Allyn Denton, with her loving family at her side. Born on May 29, 1938, in St. Albans, she was the daughter of the late Floyd W. and Pauline A. (Keenan) Norris, Sr. Norma was married to Gerard “Buddy” Gratton, Sr., who preceded her in death on December 29, 2004. Norma attended B.F.A. in St. Albans. For several years she worked for the former Fonda Container Corp. and then for many years she was cook/kitchen manager for local nursing homes. Until her illness forced her to retire, she had been a personal care attendant for Cecile Paquin. She was a member of St. Albans Lodge 1090, L.O.O.M.; Green Mountain Post #1 American Legion Auxiliary; the Franklin County Senior Center and a former member of Robert E. Glidden Post# 758, Veteran of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. Norma will be remembered for her love of bingo and her shopping out of the Blair Catalog for which she purchased one of everything. Most of all she will be remembered by her family for her many many trips to New York to shop and visit the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino. Survivors include her sons, Larry Raymond and wife, Charlotte of Enosburg and Gerard Gratton, Jr and wife, Shaleigh of St. Albans; her daughters, Shelley Johnston and husband, Ron of Highgate, Sheri Bergeron of St. Albans, Terri Cook and husband, Dave of Highgate, Kelley Raymond of Florida, Allyn Denton and husband, Marc of Milton and Lise Pearce and husband, Anthony of Massachusetts. She is also survived by 24 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; her brother, Wayne Norris and wife, Betty of Sheldon; sister, Shirley Ives of Enosburg, sister-in-law, Betty Norris, many nieces and nephews and her dear friends and gambling partners, Agnes Castle and Bea and Greg Coon. In addition to her parents and husband, Norma was preceded in death by a grandson, Todd Carpenter; brother, Floyd Norris, Jr. and niece, Debbie Williams. The family would like to express a sincere thanks to Drs Sanders and Marco and to the Milton Police Department. Norma’s family will receive friends on Friday, December 3, 2010, from 3:00 - 5:00 PM at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 So Main St., St. Albans. A funeral service will be held Friday at 5:00PM in the Heald Chapel with the Reverend Duane Langlois, Deacon of Holy Angels Parish officiating. Interment will next spring in the Sheldon Village Cemetery. Due to Norma’s breast cancer illness, memorials may be made in her name to the Jim Bashaw Cancer and Catastrophic Fund, c/o Northwestern Medical Center, Community Relations Office, 133 Fairfield St, St. Albans, VT 05478.
