Obituary for Nancy Jean (Best) Branon

Fairfield – Nancy Jean (Best) Branon, 65, died peacefully at her home on Monday, December 15, 2008, after years of struggling with a chronic disease. Born on October 1, 1943, in Burlington, Vermont, Nancy was the daughter of the late Douglas R. and Virginia A. (Stone) Best. On December 29, 1965, in St. Patrick’s Church in Fairfield, Nancy married Patrick Branon, who survives her. Nancy lived in St. Albans and graduated from Bellows Free Academy in 1961 and in 1963 graduated from the University of Vermont Dental Hygienist School. Following graduation she worked as a Hygienist for Doctor Susslin and Doctor Barker for many years. Nancy also volunteered at the Fairfield Elementary School during her two daughters’ first years of school. Nancy enjoyed gardening and visiting her special friends at the former Verdelle Village, now the St. Albans Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. Nancy was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church and thoroughly enjoyed her Wednesday Church friends. Her greatest joys were her feline companions, her family, and especially her grandchildren. Survivors include her husband of forty-two years, Patrick of Fairfield, their two daughters, Sarah Branon-Menard and her husband, Norman of Fairfield and Amy Branon-Sturdevant and her husband, Michael of Danbury, Connecticut; Nancy’s sister, Lynn Wing and her husband, Steve live in Waterbury, Vermont. Nancy also has five precious grandchildren, Elizabeth and Emma Menard and Cassandra, Canaan and Cullan Sturdevant. She is also survived by two nephews, Adam Wing and his companion, Jeanne Landeau of Burlington and Jesse Wing and his wife, Sara and their daughter, Celia of Waterbury, Vermont. Nancy is also survived by her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Pete and Nancy Branon and David and Kaye Branon all of California; Senator Sara Kittell and her husband, Bill of Fairfield; Julie Magnan of South Burlington; Karen and Rich Toubman of California; Betsy and John Depman of Maryland and Bruce and Natalie Branon of Fairfield. Nancy is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 19, 2008, at 11:00 A.M. in St. Luke’s Episcopal Church on the corner of Fairfield and Church Street. The Reverend Jean E. Austin will officiate. Interment will be later next spring in the Best family lot in Pleasant View Cemetery in Westford. Nancy’s family will receive friends on Thursday from 5 to 8 P.M. at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans.
