St. Albans – On a cold October night with the full moon in the sky, the world lost a kind and gentle soul. A warm spirit that never had a bad word to say about anyone. She was a wonderful wife and a great mother. A friend to those whose lives she touched in her quiet unassuming ways. For a woman that treaded so softly on this earth, she left huge footprints along her journey. Values to be held, lessons to be learned, standards to be met and the belief to put others first and self last. All without ever raising her voice. The world is a better place for her having been here and a little sadder that she left. Even though she has moved on, from this world to the next, her kind and gentle touch lives on, in sons and daughters and grand kids and all those others that she touched. A touch so light and dainty, it never felt like much. But we will carry it with us forever and hope to do as well. Millie passed away Saturday evening, October 23, 2010, at the St. Albans Healthcare and Rehab Center with her family at her side. She was born in Barre on September 26, 1928, the daughter of the late Claude & Agnes (Cleary) Rogers. On November 27, 1952, Millie married Arthur E. Christie. She always said her life began on that day. Millie was a 1946 graduate of Spaulding High School and worked for the New England Telephone Company, H.R. Halrich Stationary Store, Lorraine’s Women’s Apparel Shop and owned and operated Christie’s Market with her family. Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Arthur of St. Albans; their children, Lisa Christie, Greg Christie, Tim Christie & wife, Betsy and Dee Christie and husband, Barry Stephenson. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Katie Facey, Dan Tatro, Olivia and Jed Christie, Ben, Emily, Katherine and Andrew Christie and 4 great-granddaughters, Hallie Robtoy, Caroline, Quinn and Annabel Facey. In addition to her parents, Millie was preceded in death by her sisters, Marion Richards & Margaret Saliba and brother, Claude Rogers, Jr. At Millie’s request there will be no services. Memorials may be made to the Franklin County Humane Society, 30 Sunset Meadows, St. Albans, VT 05478 or the Alzheimer’s Association, Vermont Chapter, 172 N. Main St., Barre, VT 05641-4124.
