Obituary for Maurice S. Lumbra

Berkshire /St. Albans – Maurice S. Lumbra,73, a lifelong resident of this area, passed away unexpectedly Monday evening, September 27, 2010, shortly after arrival at the Northwestern Medical Center. Born on February 22, 1937, in Berkshire, Vermont, he was the son of the late Hilton and Myrtle (Williams) Lumbra. Maurice was a 1958 graduate of Bellows Free Academy and then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He received his honorable discharge on December 14, 1962. He retired from the General Electric Company following 25 years of service. Maurice was a founding member of the St. Albans Town Fire Department in 1975, a member of Green Mountain Post # 1, American Legion, a very active member of Richford Lions Club, District # 45, where he received the Melvin Jones Fellow Award. In January of 1996, Maurice joined the staff of the Heald Funeral Home and also was an assistant of the Spears Funeral Home in Enosburg. He was sexton at the Greenwood Cemetery for several years. He enjoyed traveling, yard work and did garden tilling for many area residents. He was a longtime member of the Maplefields 8 AM coffee group. Survivors include his companion, Denise Brown of Berkshire; his four sons, Maurice “Todd” Lumbra and his wife, Gina, of St. Albans; John Lumbra and his partners, of Waitsfield; William Lumbra and his wife, Joannie of St. Albans and Shaun Lumbra and his wife, Devin of Richford; his ten grandchildren, Anthony, Robynlee, Johnna, Alecia, Michayla, Cody, Sydney, Noah, Ryan and Colby. Maurice is also survived by his brother, Francis Lumbra of St. Albans; sisters-in-law, Barbara Lumbra of St. Albans and Debra Colomb of California and his mother-in-law, Mabel Colomb also of California and many nieces, nephews and cousins; his step-children, Sue and Steven Harbin, Jean Ross, Patty and Rene Fortin, Kathy and Steven Shepard, Robert and Liz Tessier, James and Lisa Tessier, Paul Tessier, Dianne and Michael Begnoche and Michael and Shawn Tessier and their families. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Joan (Colomb) Lumbra on August 17, 1993, his second wife, Marie (Chevalier) Lumbra, June 19, 2006 and his brother, Robert on October 18, 2008. Maurice’s family will receive friends on Friday, October 1st from 4 to 7 PM in the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 2, 2010, at 11:00 A.M. in Holy Angels Church on Lake Street. Interment with military honors will follow in the family lot in the St. Albans Bay Cemetery.
