Obituary for Mary "Mae" Elizabeth Manning

Saint Albans - Mary “Mae” Elizabeth Manning a longtime area resident passed away on Tuesday, October 11th, 2022, at the McClure Miller Respite House.

Born at home in Sheldon on May 7th, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Harmond E. and Mary (Munson) Toof. Mae was 91 years old.

As a woman of many talents, she will be remembered for the many ribbons she won at the fairs around Vermont, for her vegetables, flowers and baked goods. She also loved animals, writing poems, snowmobiling and was an avid NASCAR fan. A kind, gentle, loving person, the warmth of her family, home and helping other people were the joy of her life. She and her husband built the Maple Grove Campground on Route 104 in Fairfax, once owned the Red Top Cabins in Milton and the Lakeview Plumbing and Heating business in Georgia.

Survivors include her son, William Manning of Orlando Florida and daughter, Mary Pilon and Brian Peters of St. Albans, as well as her grandchildren, Kimberly, Crystal, Little Rich, Heather, Ron, Christopher and Trevor and several great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Eunice Root of Fairfax, a special niece, Robin and several other nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mae was predeceased by her two husbands, Linus Dominigue and Wendell Manning; her daughter, Sharon Bidwell; great-granddaughter, Kassidy Sears and brothers, Harmond Toof, Jr. and Vernon Toof.

There will be no public services and a private interment will be held at the Sanderson Corners Cemetery in Fairfax.

With Mae’s love for animals, her family asks that memorials in her name be made to the Franklin County Animal Rescue, 30 Sunset Meadow, St. Albans, Vermont 05478.

Honored to be serving Mae’s family is the Heald Funeral Home, where messages of condolence are welcome at www.healdfuneralhome.com.
