St. Albans, VT - Mary-Lou (Myers) Collins, 45, of St. Albans, Vermont, passed away July 6, 2011, surrounded by family and friends after a thirteen year battle with breast cancer. She was non-complaining, courageous, and kept her sense of humor to the very end. She was born in Burlington on February 7, 1966, the fifth of six children, to Gerald (Joe) and Joanne (Thompson) Myers of Winooski. She graduated from Winooski High School in 1984. She was employed at the U. S. Citizenship and Immigration Services for 25 years. On June 28, 1986, she married her high school sweetheart and soul mate, Dale M. Collins, in St. Stephen’s Church in Winooski. They celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary last week with a gathering of numerous family and friends. Mary-Lou was a loving and caring wife to her husband, Dale. Their love was an inspiration to many. She was a devoted mother to her three sons, Mark, Adam, and Evan Collins. Her family was her life and all the pleasures she had in life centered around them. The Collins family followed their sons’ hockey years, traveling throughout the New England States and making many friends. They enjoyed camping with family and friends, vacationing in Maine and cruising the Caribbean. Scrap-booking was Mary’s passion, a way of expressing her creativity. She enjoyed several overnight scrapping adventures with her close scrap-booking friends. Mary-Lou is survived by her family - Dale, Mark, Adam, Evan; her mother Joanne Myers; by her siblings and their families: Gerry and Lisa Myers (Joe, Travis, Dorey); Dan and Lori Myers (Justin, Chelsea); Betsy and Dan Harris; Peter and Louise Myers (Lindsey, Casey); David and Laurel Myers (Madison, Sam); and also her brother-in-law Mike and Meg Collins (Laura, Steven). She is also survived by many cousins, and by her uncles, Howard (Gloria) Thompson and Paul (Emmaline) Myers, all of Florida. It would be remiss not to mention their truest and lasting friends Bill and Jennifer Gratton and Bob and Maureen Toof, who were always there for fun, trips, and excellent, tender care-giving. She was predeceased by her father Gerald Myers and her mother-in-law Jacqueline Collins. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr Julie Olin and Laura her great office assistant for their support and wonderful care of Mary. They would also like to thank the innumerable friends, neighbors, and co-workers who were so supportive and generous with their donations of food and time; it was greatly appreciated. Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on SATURDAY July 9, 2011, from 2 to 4 P.M. in the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on MONDAY, July 11, 2011, at 11:00 A.M. in Holy Angels Catholic Church on Lake Street. The Reverend Maurice J. Roy will be the celebrant. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Jim Bashaw Fund, in care of Northwestern Medical Center, Community Relations Office, 133 Fairfield Street, St. Albans, VT 05478.
