Obituary for Martina M. Metz

Martina M. Metz St. Albans - Martina M. Metz, 77, a resident of this area for the past twenty-eight years, passed away Wednesday evening, September 13, 2006, at Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans. She was born on the family farm in Pleasant Valley/Underhill on August 10, 1929, the daughter of the late Morton and Marion (Burns) Marshia. Martina graduated from Burlington High School and Vermont College. She was a former member of the Congregational Church in Essex Jct., and had been employed by the U. S. Government as a procurement officer at General Electric in Burlington and as a guard at the St. Albans Correctional Center. She also operated an outreach center in Burlington’s North End called “Reach”. She enjoyed reading, knitting and sewing. Survivors include her longtime companion, Jim McCluskey of St. Albans Bay, two sons; Dale Metz and his wife, Keeli of Georgia, and Craig Metz and his wife, Janet of Burlington, sisters, Gwendolyn Brown of Milton and Marilyn Lovell of Milford, Massachusetts and sisters-in-law, Gloria Marshia of Randolph, Vermont and Helen Snow of Bristol, Vermont and a brother-in-law, Lester Metz of Phoenix, Arizona. She also leaves several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Metz, daughter Lisa Metz and a brother, Ronald Marshia and brothers-in-law, Arthur “Slim” Brown and Roy Lovell. A memorial service will be held on Sunday September 17, 2006 at 1:00 P.M. in the Heald Funeral Chapel, 87 So. Main St., St. Albans. The Reverend Maxwell Reader will officiate. Interment will be later in the family lot in Fairview Cemetery in Essex Jct. There will be no calling hours. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105-1905.
