St. Albans/Essex Jct. - Marie R. Flanagan, 79, a lifelong area resident, passed away Sunday morning, August 24, 2008, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington. Her loving family was at her side. She was born in St. Albans August 9, 1929, the daughter of the late Walter F. and Alice (Haskins) Ronald. On July 1, 1950, Marie married Francis B. Flanagan, Jr. in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Albans. Francis died April 12, 1992. Marie worked as a secretary for many years, in Sheldon for Missisquoi Specialty Board Division, and most recently for Cota CPA in Essex Jct. She was a 1947 graduate of St. Mary’s High School and a Past President of the Franklin County Business and Professional Women where she was instrumental in establishing a scholarship fund for women returning to the workplace. She was a 50 year member of Court St. Mary’s Chapter of Catholic Daughters of the Americas, a former Troop Leader of the Junior Catholic Daughters, and a member of the Bereavement Committee for St. Lawrence Church in Essex Jct. She also volunteered for the St. Albans Democratic Committee. Marie was an ardent Red Sox fan and enjoyed the company of her friends and family. Marie is survived by her daughter, Karen F. Jette and her fiancé, Michael Dowling of Essex Jct., a sister and her husband, Anne and Guy Willett of Punta Gorda, Florida, grandchildren; Meredith and Darren Connolly and their daughter, Kate, of Barre, VT and Alison Jette of Essex Jct. And Boston. She also leaves a niece and nephew, Sheryl Johnston and Stephen Myers, both of Essex Jct., an aunt, Margaret Pierce of South Yarmouth, MA, a cousin, Nancy Ronald and many other dear cousins. She will be fondly remembered by her special friends, “The Golden Girlsâ€, Dottie Dowling, Pat Williamson, Jane Magnant and Jeanette Chevalier, as well as Bea Butler, Sis L’Esperance, Bev Connors, and Joan Wilson. She was predeceased by her parents and her husband, Francis. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church with the Pastor, Father Andre Houle as Celebrant. Interment will follow in the family lot in Holy Cross Cemetery. Visitation will be today from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. in the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St., St. Albans.
