Obituary for Marie Theresa (Desrochers) Thomas
St. Albans – Marie Theresa (Desrochers) Thomas, 61, passed away surrounded by members of her loving family on Wednesday, September 12, 2018, at the McClure – Miller VNA Respite House in Colchester after several seperate battles with cancer spanning 20+ years.

Marie was born May 4, 1957, in St. Albans to Virginia (Smith) and Paul Desrochers. Marie attended St. Albans Town schools graduating from Bellows Free Academy, St. Albans in 1975. She also attended classes at Community College of Vermont.

Marie married Bradley Thomas of St. Albans on April 16, 1983.

She worked at St. Albans Town schools for 20 years in Food Services, first at the James P. Callaghan Memorial School at St. Albans Bay and later at Saint Albans Town Education Center. Marie then worked at Northwest Technical Center in St. Albans as a Certified Paraeducator in the Culinary Arts Program.

Marie was involved in 4H beginning as a participant in her youth, then following in the footsteps of her mother becoming a 4H leader and Girl Scout Leader for her own children. She also loved cooking and collecting recipes. She was an accomplished sewer and quilter and was briefly a member of the Franklin County Quilters Guild.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Virginia A. (Smith) Desrochers & Paul F. Desrochers and her brother, Norman Desrochers.

Marie is survived by her husband, Bradley of 35 years of St. Albans, and her children and their spouses, Kevin & Jessica (Beaudoin) of Winooski, Sarah & Michael Burdo of St. Albans, Amanda & Daniel “DJ” Justice, Jr. of South Burlington and Trafton of Colchester; her grandchildren, Persephonie, Mercy, Micah Marie and Siah and her great-grandchildren, Illayna, Bradley, Skylar and Willow Marie.

She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Albert and Brenda (Kittell) Desrochers of Enosburg Falls, her sister and brother-in-law, Claire (Desrochers) and Thomas Roberts of Beebe Plains, her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Peter and Sally (Phillips) Thomas of St. Albans, her unofficially adopted daughter, Jessica “Squishy” Jaquish of Craftsbury and many nieces and nephews. Marie would also like to acknowledge members of the Greeno family, her former in-laws.

Visitation will be at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans from 4:00 to 6:00 PM on Friday, September 21, 2018.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 22, at the Heald Funeral Home.

The family of Marie wishes to extend our sincere thanks to all the staff at Franklin County Home Health Agency and their Hospice Program, especially Jeanne Dube who became our friend. We’d also like to thank McClure-Miller VNA Respite House. Marie’s stay there was not long but the care she received was much appreciated. Additionally, we would like to thank the extended Northwest Technical Center family for their support and help. A special thank you to Germaine Cross for all your assistance and support.
