St. Albans – Madonna M. “Donna” Vernal a lifelong area resident passed away Sunday, December 7, 2014, at the Northwestern Medical Center, with her sister, Flossie, and family friends at her side. Born on June 6, 1926, at the family farm in St. Albans, she was the daughter of the late Harold F. and Mae (Clark) Vernal. Donna was 88 years old. She was responsible for starting Martha’s Kitchen and getting the Samaritan House up and running. Following her retirement from the government, she became “Lay Minister” and for 25 years preached the Word of God in most of the Protestant Churches in Franklin County and area nursing homes. Donna wrote beautiful poetry that expressed her faith and also expressed herself through a variety of artwork. She was a longtime member of AARP and Franklin County Humane Society. Survivors include her sister, Flora “Flossie” Vernal of St. Albans; her adopted family, Joy and Al Jenkins and their family, several cousins and many close friends. Friends are invited to attend calling hours on Thursday, December 11, 2014, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans.
