Highgate Center – Lois A. Callan, 79, a lifelong resident of this area, passed away on Thursday December 25, 2008, at the Northwestern Medical Center with her loving family at her side. Born in Sheldon Springs, on July 1, 1929, Lois was the daughter of the late Lee M. and Laura (Perry) Smith. She was married to John B. Callan, who preceded her in death on December 7, 2004. Lois enjoyed knitting, gardening and was an excellent cook for her family and friends. Survivors include her two sons, David B. Callan and his wife. Elaine and Ray P. Callan all of Fairfield; two daughters, Linda L. Callan of Fairfield and Susan Lussier and her husband, Danny of Enosburg Falls, twelve grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, her brother, Lyle Smith of Florida and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, John, Lois was preceded in death by her sister, Charlotte Callan and her brothers, Bruce, Lee, Jr. and Rolly Smith. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 30, 2008, at 11:00 A.M. at the Heald Funeral Chapel, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans with the Reverend Herman Benjamin, Pastor of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be next spring in the Callan family lot in the Sheldon Village Cemetery. Lois’ family will receive friends on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. at the Heald Funeral Home.
