Obituary for Leo J. Benoit

Fairfax - Leo J. Benoit, a lifelong Fairfax resident, passed away unexpectedly Friday, April 11, 2014, at his home at the age of 80. He will be remembered as a kind hearted man with a work ethic like none other, who still enjoyed chopping wood, gardening and working in the woods. Born in Burlington, March 8, 1934, he was a son of the late Salime and Doris (Samson) Benoit. On August 21, 1965, he married the former Marie McMahon. Leo first served in the U.S. Army, and then operated the family dairy farm until 1990, at which time he became employed with the St. Albans Town Highway Department until his retirement in 1996. After retirement he loved his frequent social visits to Mac’s Quick Stop, Hannafords, the Co-op Creamery and Price Chopper. Leo enjoyed playing pool with his family, fishing, trapping and hunting. If you stopped in at 7:00 you had better set a half an hour aside to watch "Jeopardy". He was a former member of the Loyal Order of Moose. He leaves his wife of nearly 49 years, Marie Benoit of Fairfax, his children, John Benoit and wife, Nancy, of Fairfax, Gerald Benoit and wife, Rhoda, of Fairfax, Lori Benoit and special friend, Andre Boudreau, of Swanton and Brenda Hood and husband, Dana of Williston.
