St. Albans/Winooski - Lawrence P. Blanchard, 83, a former resident of Winooski, passed away on Saturday evening, September 20, 2008, at the St. Albans Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center with his loving family at his side. Born on October 15, 1924, in Winooski, Lawrence was the son of the late Arthur and Yvonne (Prince) Blanchard. On May 8, 1946, Lawrence married the former Doris Bissonnette, who survives him. Lawrence retired after thirty-seven years as an appliance manager for the Sears Company. Following retirement, he assisted his son Paul in the operation of his business “4 Systems Mechanicalâ€. He was a Third Degree Knight and fifty-year member of St. Stephens Council# 2284, Knights of Columbus in Winooski, Ste Jean de Baptiste in Winooski and formerly served on the Winooski School Board and Burlington Lodge # 916, B.P.O.E. Lawrence enjoyed playing cards, golf, being with his family at their camp in Alburgh and was an ardent Montreal Canadians fan. Survivors include his wife of sixty-two years, Doris of St. Albans; two sons, Reverend Gary Blanchard and his wife, Anne of Carlinville, Illinois and Paul Blanchard and his wife, Lilly of St. Albans; six grandchildren, Kris Blanchard and his wife, Kellie, Beckie Schoepke and her husband, Brian, Kym Blanton and her husband, Jeremy, Sarah Read and her husband, Darrell, Isaac Blanchard and Meghan Willman and her husband, Matt and ten great grandchildren. Lawrence is also survived by two brothers, Roger Blanchard and his wife, Ida of South Burlington and Gerald Blanchard and his wife, Lucille of Williston and a sister, Claire Langlois of Plattsburgh, New York. In addition to his parents, Lawrence was preceded in death by his brother, Bob. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 24, 2008, at 11:00 A.M. in Holy Angels Catholic Church on Lake Street in St. Albans. Interment will be on Thursday at 10:00 A.M. in the Blanchard Family lot in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Winooski. Lawrence’s family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. in the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans.
