Lawrence J. Smith St. Albans: A Mass of Christian Burial for Lawrence J. Smith who passed away Sunday, January 23, 2011, was celebrated Thursday, January 27, 2011, at 11:00 AM in Holy Angels Church, Lake Street, St. Albans with Father Maurice Roy, Pastor, officiating. Assisting at the altar was the Rev. Mr. Duane Langlois, Deacon, who proclaimed the Holy Gospel. The altar servers were Paul Bouchard and Donald Poirier. The Sacred Scriptures were read by Larry’s sister, Sr. Cecile Smith, RHSJ and his daughter, Diane Bruley. Placing the Funeral Pall on their Dad’s casket were Larry’s children, Lawrence “Mickey†Smith, Peter Smith, Diane Bruley and Pamala Smith, then his wife, Kathleen placed the crucifix. Presenting the offertory gifts were grandchildren, Ethan Bruley, Anna and Mia Smith. The organist was Michael Olmstead and the soloist was Jeanne Begnoche. The selections included “J’irai La Voir Un Jourâ€, “The Lord Is My Shepherdâ€, “You Are Mineâ€, “How Great Thou Artâ€, “The Song of Farewellâ€, “America the Beautiful†and “God Bless America†As a tribute to the U. S. Air Force Veteran, the Veterans Services Honor Guard from Green Mountain Post # 1, American Legion and Robert E. Glidden Post # 758, Veterans of Foreign Wars formed an Honor Guard as the casket and National Colors were processed to and from the sanctuary. Serving as a bearer for the American Flag was Larry’s grandson, Ethan Bruley who then presented the American Flag to Past Commander, Curtis Brown. Attending were delegations from Sisters of St. Joseph Convent of Winooski and St. Albans Town Education Center. Also attending were delegates from Jeff’s Seafood, Home Town Deli, Cioffi Prudential Real Estate, Bruley and Bruley Contractors, Diamond Street Neighbors, North West Corrections Center, Biggie Advertizing, North Valley Eye Care, S. R. Smith Real Estate, Richford High School Alumni Association, Pelkey Archery, FCSC Exercise Class, Handy Chevrolet and Toyota, Grice Brook Neighbors,Paul Poquette Real Estate and Howard's The Flower Shop. Following the Mass, the prayers of committal were offered by Father Roy and Deacon Langlois, after which the American Flag was presented to Larry’s wife, Kathleen Smith by Past Commander Curtis Brown. A luncheon was then hosted by the Ladies of St. Anne in the Holy Angels Parish Hall. The casket bearers included sons, Lawrence “Mickey†Smith and Peter Smith, son-in-law, Jason Bruley, and Ovila Smith, Edward “Buddy†Hemond and Larry Gilman. Wednesday afternoon, Father Roy conducted a prayer service and Larry’s sister, Sr. Cecile Smith, RHSJ led the family in praying the rosary in the Heald Funeral Home Chapel.
