St. Albans - Kenneth Alvin “Stubby” Barrett went to his eternal rest on Friday, February 27, 2015, after a brief period of failing health. Born November 18, 1918, to the late Clifton Adrian and Myrtle (Day) Barrett, he was raised primarily in St. Albans and attended Bellows Free Academy. After high school, Ken was employed by the railroad in St. Albans, until his job moved to New York City and so did he. He spoke fondly of his times and adventures in NYC. When the job was moved to Connecticut, he returned home. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII at many bases across the U.S. He never forgot being kicked in the backside by a corpse after the Jeep hit a bump coming down Laguna Mountain from a recovery mission at a plane crash. Ken began employment at Union Carbide within the first year of the plant’s opening and worked there until his retirement. He served as the credit union treasurer and continued into his 80’s, learning to use a computer and accounting software, until the merger with Vermont Federal Credit Union. May 22, 1948, he wed Elizabeth (Libby) Guyette of Pittsford and they spent 66 years together until her passing in December 2014. Ken was a devoted family man and a hard worker. He was generally quiet, but loved a good practical joke and some of the comedians of the 50s & 60s could bring him to tears of laughter. He enjoyed chocolate nonpareils, dancing, woodworking, playing cards, bowling and spending time with extended family. He continued to drive and run errands locally until early last year. Kenneth is survived by his two daughters, Kim Gross (Vaughn) and Wendy Nadeau (Dennis), two grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn and Vaughn Clark Gross, and nieces and nephews scattered across the U.S. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by siblings, Carroll Danforth, Alice Mae, Lola Irene, Lee Clifton and their spouses, Lucy Mitchell, William Chambers/David Audette, Raymond Barrette/Joe Messier, Gladys Scanlon and baby brother Clifton Adrian Barrett, Jr. as well as Libby’s siblings and their spouses. Prayers of committal and interment for Elizabeth who passed away on December 14, 2014, and Kenneth who passed away on February 27, 2015, will be held on Friday May 22nd at 11:00 A.M. at the family lot in the St. Albans Bay Cemetery, Lake Road. Mr. Barrett, a World War II veteran will be accorded military honors by the Camp Johnson Funeral Honors Team. Assisting the Barrett family is the Heald Funeral Home of St. Albans.
