Obituary for Kathy J. Ford
Kathy Jeanne Ford St. Albans/Milton - Kathy Jeanne Ford, 48, passed away early Wednesday, January 30, 2008, at her sister’s home in Milton following a year-long battle with appendiceal cancer. She was born in Bangor, Maine, on April 27, 1959, the daughter of the late Paul G. and Joanne (Smith) Ford. She grew up in St. Albans, graduating from Bellows Free Academy in 1977. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre from the University of Vermont in 1983. Kathy was a bookkeeper for many years, most recently at Ascension Technology in Milton. Her first love was always theater and performing. She entertained at Disney World in the early 1980's as the chipmunk Dale. She later toured nationally with The Center for Puppetry Arts and the Academy Theatre for Youth, both out of Atlanta, Georgia. During her years in Atlanta, she was the mascot Top Cat at Turner Field for the Atlanta Braves. After Kathy returned to Vermont, she volunteered as Monty the Moose at Vermont Children’s Hospital at Fletcher Allen. Kathy was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. Since 2002, Kathy committed many hours to the Catalyst Theatre Company of Burlington, serving as board member, box office manager, business manager and actress. Over a five-year period, she was a huge audience favorite in Catalyst’s annual holiday production of “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever”. Kathy is survived by her sisters, Nancy-Jo and her husband, Leland Morgan of Milton and Sally and her husband, Josh Kaufmann of St. Albans; her nephews, Chris Morgan and his wife, Marcela and their daughter, Maria of Milton, Timothy Morgan of Bingham, Maine, and Ben Kaufmann of St. Albans; her nieces, Heidi and Andrea Kaufmann of St. Albans; her close friend, Scott Croft of Arlington, Vermont; her closest cousins, Charlene Holyoke of Bangor, Maine and Cora Banerjee of West Kingston, Rhode Island; several extended family members and many, many friends. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2008, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church on Church Street in St. Albans. Kathy’s family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall of the Church immediately following her service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Franklin County Humane Society, 30 Sunset Meadows, St. Albans, Vermont 05478 or to the Catalyst Theatre Company, One Main Street #211, Burlington, Vermont 05401.
