Sparland, IL/St. Albans, VT – Katherine A. Hunter, 61, passed away on Friday, November 8, 2013, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, with her children and granddaughter at her side, after a long battle with end-stage renal failure. “Kathy†was well known for her smile, sense of humor and compassion. She was an LPN for many years, working in private practices and hospitals in Florida and Massachusetts. Once she could no longer practice as an LPN, due to her illness, she took great pride in the ability to help others as a volunteer in the Surgical Services ward at NMC in St. Albans. Worried patients and families could count on her getting answers as well as helping kids cope with the day, often times having supplies of her Mouse Hospital puppet, stickers and books. Always ready to help others, she often times put everyone else’s needs and wishes above her own. That’s just who she was – strong, compassionate and giving. Kathy was predeceased by her parents, Bernard and Bernadette Simpson of St. Albans, married for 59 ½ years; and her husband of 25 years, Larry Hunter. She leaves behind two children, Wendy A. Brouillette and her husband, Mark of Montgomery; Michael J. Hunter and his wife, Nancy of Sparland, IL; her 20 year old granddaughter, Katherine N. Siano of Littleton, NH, and a special grand dog, Duke the boxer, as well as extended family and friends throughout Illinois and Vermont. Mom will be missed by many. At Kathy’s request, there will be no visiting hours or services. A private interment will be held in the spring at St. Thomas Cemetery in Underhill. Mom was an advisory for organ donation as two people, in their time of tragedy many years ago, gave Mom the gift of life with a kidney 20 years ago and, again, 14 years ago. Please remember to give your own gift of life in her memory and sign up for organ donation. Even with her illness she was still able to give the gift of sight to someone.
